is Heart Month
HHeart
attack is the leading cause of on-duty firefighter fatalities,
accounting for around half of all firefighter deaths each year. The
National
Volunteer
Fire
Council
launched
the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program in 2003 to combat this alarming
trend through education, awareness, and resources. The Heart-Healthy
Firefighter Program promotes fitness, nutrition, and health awareness
for all members of the fire and emergency services, both volunteer and
career.
Feb. 03, 2012 at 20:30 hours - Rescue Local - Vehicle Crash - West Main Street and Franklin Street in Waynesboro - Box 2-01. Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2, BLS Ambulance 2-8 and Deputy Chief Stoops respond on the call. Rescue Squad 2's crew assist with patient care and hazard control. Engine 2-1 crew took hazard control on the second vehicle. EMS transported one and took patient refusals for the rest. Waynesboro Police and Waynesboro Fire-Police closed three blocks of Main Street so that we could operate safely. Deputy 2-2 placed the box in service at 21:22 hours.
(Photo by James Erdenbrack) Feb. 01, 2012 at 16:19 hours - Rescue Local Vehicle Crash - Car VS pole - 6944 Nunnery Hill Road - Quincy Township - Box 2-50A - Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2, BLS Ambulance from Waynesboro and Deputy Chief Stoops responded on this call. Fire-Police from Waynesboro and Mont Alto closed the road until the power company replaced the pole. The assignment was placed in service at 17:14 hours.
Jan. 31, 2012 at 13:17 hours - Fire in a single family dwelling - 11840 Orlando Circle in Washington Township - Box 2-40 - Waynesboro responded with Engine 2-1, Engine-Tanker 2, Tower 2 and the Rescue Squad. Engine companies from Mont Alto, Blue Ridge Summit, Fountaindale , Leitersburg MD and two BLS units from the Waynesboro Ambulance Squad were also on the scene. An electrical malfunction in the homes dishwasher was the cause for the smoke. The box was put into service by Chief 2 at 14:33 hours. About twenty minutes later Engine 2-1 and Utility 2 returned as a public service to placed new smoke detectors outside of every sleeping areas and on each floor.
Jan. 31, 2012 at 10:00 hours - The students and a teacher for Saint Andrews Catholic School presented both fire stations with hand made posters, homemade cookies and a very nice donation for Catholic Schools week. They thanked us for our service and we thanked them for the poster, cookies and the donation.
Jan. 31,2012 at 11:32 hours - Rescue Box - Vehicle Crash - West North Street and CV Avenue in Waynesboro - Box 2-01 - Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2, Medic 201, Ambulances 2-8, 2-9, 5-7 and Chief 2 responded on the call. Three patients were transported to the Waynesboro Hospital. Units were placed in service at 12:15 hours.
New Department Shirts to be ordered
The
Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department will be placing an order for
the following clothing: T-shirts, Sweat Shirts, Hooded Sweat Shirts
and Job Shirts. These items will have either the embroidered patch
on the front OR
the silk screened front patch and back text.

Your name and/or rank can be added for $5 per item.
All prices are subject to change
depending on the amount that is ordered. The amounts listed on the
form are the maximum that the items will be.
Any questions about the orders
should be directed to Deputy Chief Stoops. Order forms can be given
to Deputy Chief Stoops, Casey Rock, or placed in D/C Stoops’ box at
station
1 before February 20th.

Jan 29,2012 at 12:30 Hours - Rescue Local - Vehicle Crash - Van VS Pole. Box 2-50 -10,000 Block of Anthony Highway in Quincy Township - Engine 2-2 and Rescue Squad 2's crews controlled the hazards, while Waynesboro Ambulance 2-8's crew attended to the patient that was not transported. Fire Police from Waynesboro and Mont Alto closed PA Route 997, so that the crews could work safely. The units were in services at 13:27 hours

Jan. 24, 2012 at 23:31 hours - Fire in a single family dewelling - North Main Street in Smithsburg MD - Box 7-01 - Tower 2 responded on the first alarm assingment. Tower 2 was in service at 01:05 hours.
Jan. 23, 2012 at 18:53 hours - Kitchen Fire in a single family dwelling - 12089 Penn Mar Road in Washington Township - Box 4-02 - Waynesboro responded with Engine 2-1,Engine - Tanker 2, Tower 2 and the Rescue Squad 2. Engine 2-1 laid in, by orders of command 4 and the Tower had a 1 3/4 line inside. Rescue Squad 2 and the Engine-Tanker level one staged until released. It turned out to be food on the stove, and the dwelling was ventilated. Company 2 units were in service at 19:45 hours.
Jan. 22,2012 at 03:44 hours - Apartment Building Fire - 144 West North Street in Waynesboro - Box 2-01 - The call was dispatched for smoke in an apartment building. Upon arrival of Engine 2-2, Captain 2-1 reported a working attic fire. Apparatus on the scene was Engine 2-1,2-2,3-2,4-2,5-2, WC 7-1,WC 9-2,Tower 2, Truck 17, WC Quint 27, Rescue Squad 3, Air 10 and BLS Ambulance 2-8. Captain 2-2 had the command, Captain 2-1 was assigned operations, Deputy Chief 4 was the safety officer, while WC Captain 9 was the Staging Officer. The fire was knocked down within 30 minutes, but there was extensive overhaul. Three families were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The fire was caused by an overloaded electric circuit. There were no working smoke detectors. The City of Hagerstown's Truck 1 and South Mountain's Engine 16-2 transferred to South Potomac Street Fire Station. The last units cleared the scene at 06:30 hours.

09:40 Hours Engine 2-1, Tower 2, Rescue Squad 2 and Utility 2 were recalled to the scene for a possible rekindle. Crews found a hot spot in the blown insulation. Units were available at 10:15 a.m.

00:20 hours - Inside Investigation, odor of heating oil - 202 West Third Street in Waynesboro . Box 2-01- Engine 2-1 and Rescue Squad 2 were on the scene until 00:46. During this call Tower 2 was dispatched to Washington County MD for a chimney fire and failed to get out due to staffing.

18:49 hours - Chimney fire in a single family dwelling - 10238 Old Forge Road in Washington Township - Box 4-03 Waynesboro responded with Engine 2-2, Rescue Squad 2 and Tower 2. The Tower crew laddered the dwelling, remove burning materials from the flue and assisted with checking for extension. Engine 2-2 and Rescue Squad were held in staging. Units were availible at 20:07 hours.
Jan. 17, 2012 at 16:13 hours - Hazardous Condition - Carbon Monoxide leak - 123 West Main Street in Waynesboro - Box 2-01. Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2, Ambulances 2-8 ,2-9 and Deputy Chief Stoops responded on the assignment. Upon investigating crews found dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the apartment building. The carbon monoxide level was over 900 parts per million in the basement and near 400 ppm on the first floor. Crews shut down the furnace and ventilated the building using multiple fans. Seven people showed signs of carbon monoxide exposure and were transported to the hospital to be checked. Mont Alto's engine company transferred to the South Potomac Street Fire Station. Deputy Chief Stoops placed the box in service at 18:00 hours.

Jan. 17,2012 at 10:50 hours - Rescue Box 2-95 - Vehicle Crash with a vehicle on it side. 13780 Anthony Highway South at intersection of Lyons Road in Washington Township. Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2 , 2 BLS ambulances from Co.2-A and Medic 79 from Smithsburg MD were on the assignment. Two patients were transported to the Waynesboro Hospital. Units were placed available by Chief 2 at 11:38 hours.
Jan. 16, 2012 at 09:57 hours - Hazardous Condition - Carbon Monoxide detector sounding with a patient. Rescue Box 2-30 - 6176 Marsh Road in Washington Township. Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2, BLS from Waynesboro Ambulance Squad and Advanced Life Support from Medic 200 responded to the call. Units were in service at 10:49 hours.
Jan.16,2012 at 01:54 hours - Tower 2 transferred to Company 1 - Headquarters Fire Station - 130 North Second Street in the Borough of Chambersburg while Truck 1 was on a third alarm assignment in Shippensburg. Tower 2 went in service at 04:27 hours, without any calls.

Jan. 15, 2012 at 20;11 hours - Rescue Box - Vehicle Crash reported as a T-Bone collision with entrapment. Box 2-50 -Tomstown Road and Anthony Highway in Washington Township. Engine 2-1, Rescue Squad 2, Two BLS Ambulance for Waynesboro and one from Mont Alto responded with ALS From Medic 200. While enroute to the scene Captain 2-1 put Air-Medical on stand-by. The patients were transport to local hospitals and Air-Medical was cancelled. Fire-Police from Waynesboro and Mont Alto directed traffic to keep the responders safe. Units were available at 21:04 hours.
Jan. 12, 2012 - Career Apparatus Operator Steve Biesecker up-dates the pump panel on Brush 2. He is repairing the class A foam system and doing other maintenance in the off wildland fire season.

Engine 2-1, Tower 2 and Rescue Squad 2 responded with Engine Company 5, Washington County 9 and EMS from Waynesboro Ambulance Squad. Truck Company Captain Brain Starliper reported an electrical fire contained to the outlet box, and held the box to Waynesboro units. Mont Alto's Engine 5-2 filled the Potomac Street station until the captain placed the box available at 17:52 hours. Since March 20th, 2011 |
